Daily Word

Psalm 35

They do not speak peaceably,

            but devise false accusations

against those who live quietly in the land.

They gape at me and say, "Aha! Aha!

With our own eyes we have seen it."

O LORD, you have seen this; be not silent.

Do not be far from me, O Lord.

Awake, and rise to my defense!

Contend for me, my God and Lord.

Vindicate me in your righteousness, O LORD my God;

do not let them gloat over me.

Acts 15

Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, "The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to obey the law of Moses."

The apostles and elders met to consider this question. After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: "Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe. God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. He made no distinction between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of the disciples a yoke that neither we nor our fathers have been able to bear? No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are."

Prayer

Acts 4:29-31

            “Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus."

After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

Amen. 

Find a moment of silence and reflect on the words,

“through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”

Why is His “name” so special?  What is it about a name?

What does it mean to define Jesus as, “your holy servant”?

Pray and ask God to make your name synonymous

            with words like, “holy” and “servant.”

           

Action

Learn the meaning of your name.  If you could have a new name, based on a names meaning, what would you want it to be?
